3D Pirate

So I'm currently working on getting back up to speed on 3D. This is my cannon-carrying-pirate, created in Blender. Blender is open source rather than one of the industry standard programs, but the skill-set is transferable as 90% of being a competent modeller is in the mind.

The pirate is taken from first steps, from my own concept art. He's built at a failry low resolution ( about 5k tris, we have in running on an Android phone ) with attention to edge-loop topology. I've hand-rigged him and animated him. It was a learning process, and there's things I would now do different. But that's fine; I'm working on another one.

Here's his skin and his specular-map. As he's a bad-guy mook and therefore not intended for close talking-head action, his face is on his main texture map.

And here a series of wireframes showing the edge loops and where the poly budget got spent on.
